Access Management Workshop in Rome (CIVITAS CATALIST)

CIVITAS Initiative

CIVITAS CATALIST and CIVITAS MIMOSA cities, experts and ‘ take-up cities’ were invited by ATAC, the Mobility Agency for the City of Rome, and ISIS for CIVITAS MIMOSA to a thematic workshop on 'Access Management and Pricing Strategies' last 26-27 November 2009 in Rome. The workshop has been an interesting exchange of experiences and solutions on access management among the different levels of experience leaded by the city of Rome which has the second largest Access Restriction Area in Europe.

After a short introduction by ATAC on the access management in Rome, the counsellors of mobility of the cities Rome, Funchal, Tallinn and Bologna were invited to a very interesting discussion on the political point of view on the access management in their own cities, focused on car orientation, road pricing, car parking, access restriction and integrated strategies. As the workshop was organised for the CIVITAS projects MIMOSA and CATALIST every invited MIMOSA city held a presentation on their local barriers on access management and pricing strategies with tailor-made solutions implemented in their cities. In the afternoon it was the turn of the CATALIST Ambassador cities Genoa and Rotterdam and the invited take-up cities. All presentations were commented by various experts and followed by questions of the audience. The outcome was an interesting pro-active discussion on different levels of experience from ‘take-up city’ up to CIVITAS partners and experts. The invited take-up cities Umea, Ancona and Riga plus Gdynia by gave an overview of barriers and drivers and discussed the status of their cities with the measures implemented, in this way they contributed by giving a fresh input .
