A successful start for cross-border collaboration with the CIVINET Deutscher Sprachraum

Together with its enthusiastic members from German speaking countries and regions, and thanks to the financial support of the CIVINET Activity Fund 2020, a number of events such as webinars, workshops and round tables could be organised by the network in 2021.
Framed by the Covid-19 pandemic, all of these events took place online. At first sight, this seemed to be a restriction, but turned out to be a success factor for the sake of simplified participation. A webinar series, composed of four webinars on various mobility planning topics, reached 250+ participants and therefore had a huge effect. The events built the bridge between new mobility trends and proven transport policies. They focused on:
- Resilient cities: Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning in times of crisis
- Urban Vehicle Access Restriction
- Parking management (strategic process, as well as insights from practitioners)
- Bike subscription models
- SUMP, clean vehicles and Mobility as a Service (topics of the Regional city exchange workshop in Aachen, reflecting on the long lasting impact of the CIVITAS DYN@MO project that ended in 2016)
Successful collaboration with other European projects, such as CIVITAS ELEVATE or Park4SUMP, facilitated the implementation. In addition, enthusiastic CIVINET DSR members contributed to a much-anticipated programme for 2022; those members included: the German Institute of Urban Affairs, the Austrian Association of Cities and Towns, the Austrian Institute of Technology, and the German Association for Housing, Urban and Spatial Development. These members are also particularly effective in spreading the world about the network, in order to attract additional cities and mobility organisations.
