2nd MODERN Technical Management Board Meeting in Brescia

CIVITAS Initiative

MODERN’S four cities, Craiova, Brescia, Coimbra and Vitoria-Gasteiz are working with the CIVITAS Initiative on the basis of implementing a clear set of common objectives while having the citizens well being at heart.

The cities are working extremely hard to reduce their level of pollution by reducing traffic flow and fuel consumption as well as promoting a bold package of integrated measures. By doing so the citizens will enhance their understanding and use of the public transport system thus contributing to the achievement of sustainable mobility goals.MODERN had its second Technical Management Board in Brescia from 18 to 19 February, hosted by the local partner Brescia Trasporti. The meeting was a great success, improving both the operative and interaction aspects of the project. The workshop comprised of presentations from all four cities, detailing the measure descriptions planned for this year while the presentations included a more extensive description of how the different partners are approaching the planning and building of a better city. During the Technical Board Meeting the parallel sessions on evaluation and dissemination were organised. This provided an opportunity to share intentions, experiences and plans. In particular it was agreed to define the dissemination plans as soon as possible. These will include the outline of the events in the programme, such as, seminars, meetings, stakeholder engagement activities and a road show. The evaluation managers also had a thorough discussion and set out a clear schedule of the activities for the coming months. At the end of the Technical Management Board the project coordinator, Gabriel Vladut, stressed the need to renew a strong mutual commitment from all four cities and partners in order to perform to their best within the MODERN project. All partners agreed to this engagement and it can be said that a harmonious and promising environment was evident during the meeting. Furthermore, the dates for the next Technical Management Board were fixed and Coimbra kindly offered to host all guests. The 2nd Management Board Meeting followed the MODERN kick-off meeting, which took place in Craiova from 20 - 21 October 2008. The four cities also made a presentation, detailing their general objectives, their planned actions and introduced their teams. 17 partners were represented in the meeting, which provided a platform for all to cement relationships and to work effectively on the project for the following four years. The MODERN project kick-off meeting was also an excellent occasion for a political engagement as the Mayor of Craiova, Craiova´s city council, Deputy-Mayor of Coimbra, Politician of Municipality of Brescia and Mr Antonio Tricas, European Commission – Directorate General for Energy and Transport, were all present.
