Aalborg (Denmark)

Aalborg is an industrial and university city in the north of Denmark. It is the fourth largest city in Denmark, and the city places a high priority establishing and maintaining a high quality of life for locals and visitors, alike. The city is a leader in a sustainable mobility, with a particular expertise in active mobility, public transportation and urban planning.

Since 1994, Aalborg has made notable strides in pushing for the role of local sustainability in the European agenda. It was host of the European Conference on Sustainable Cities and Towns in 1994, 2004, and again in 2024. Landmark documents, like the Aalborg Charter and Aalborg Commitments, both of which have been signed by thousands of municipalities across Europe, outline a strong commitment to local sustainable development.
