Summary
ParkPAD is a tool that provides guidance to cities on their urban parking policies, helping improve current strategies while planning for future policy goals. ParkPAD introduces an innovative approach to reviewing, prioritising and updating parking policies, fostering consensus among stakeholders on the often contentious topic of parking. The tool’s framework consists of a self-assessment exercise to capture the current state of parking policy, followed by a ParkPAD site visit that includes stakeholder interviews and alignment with Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs), and concludes with an action plan to guide a city’s future parking strategies and activities. The entire process is facilitated by a ParkPAD auditor who understands the local language and context. ParkPAD has been implemented in more than 35 cities, including Lisbon (PT), Kehl (DE) and Shkodra (AL).
Good Example
The city of Rostock, Germany, used ParkPAD to successfully audit its parking policies. Through multi-stakeholder consensus, the city developed an action plan focusing on improving the quality of life in residential areas, optimizing commercial traffic efficiency, and enhancing traffic safety as part of its wider SUMP strategy.
