Zagreb (Croatia)
Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and a historic city with a complex urban transport system. Economic growth and rising living standards have contributed to increased private car use, creating pressure on mobility networks. Public transport is based on trams, buses, a funicular, and suburban rail, and forms the backbone of daily travel, although private cars still account for a significant share of trips. The city also has extensive pedestrian areas, parks, and green spaces.
While more than 200 kilometers of bicycle facilities exist, they do not yet function as a coherent network, despite favorable geographic and climate conditions. In response, recent mobility initiatives have focused on improving public transport quality, strengthening communication with residents, and promoting walking and cycling. Measures such as e-ticketing, intermodal connections, and public engagement campaigns have supported shifts toward more sustainable travel and contributed to reductions in emissions and noise.
