Florence (Italy)

Florence, the capital of Italy's Tuscany region, is advancing sustainable mobility while preserving its historic charm. Situated along the Arno River and surrounded by hills, the city's geography influences its transport planning. Florence's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) focuses on reducing last-mile freight vehicles and optimizing urban space to alleviate congestion

The city promotes cycling and walking by expanding bike lanes and pedestrian areas. Public transport enhancements include the introduction of 82 electric buses over two years, contributing to Florence's goal of climate neutrality by 2030. Additionally, Florence plans to install 350 electric vehicle charging stations by 2026.

Florence's commitment to digital innovation is evident in its Smart City initiatives, such as the Smart City Control Room, which integrates technology to improve urban services. These efforts have earned Florence recognition as Italy's top digital city in 2024
