Toulouse (France)
Toulouse, often referred to as "La Ville Rose" due to its distinctive pink terracotta architecture, is a dynamic city in southwestern France. Situated along the Garonne River, the city's geography presents unique challenges for mobility planning. The right bank, established on a flood-resistant terrace, contrasts with the left bank's lower elevation, which includes flood-prone areas. To address mobility and sustainability, Toulouse has developed an extensive public transport network operated by Tisséo, featuring two metro lines, tramways, and high-frequency bus lines (Linéo). A notable addition is the Téléo cable car, France's longest urban cable car, connecting key southern districts since May 2022. Despite these efforts, car usage remains dominant, accounting for 64% of trips, highlighting ongoing challenges in reducing car dependency.
Toulouse Métropole has initiated the "Demain Mobilités!" (Tomorrow's Mobility) project, which outlines the city's strategy for achieving efficient and sustainable mobility. This initiative includes the development of a comprehensive Mobility Plan (Plan de Mobilité - PDM). The strategy emphasizes reducing car dependency, enhancing public transport services, and encouraging active transportation methods like cycling and walking.
