Bandırma (Türkiye)

Bandırma is a strategic port city on the Sea of Marmara, serving as an important industrial, logistics, and transport hub in western Turkey. Its growing economic activity and regional connectivity bring increasing mobility pressures, particularly in terms of traffic management and urban accessibility.

Although the city does not yet have a formal Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), the municipality has begun taking steps to improve pedestrian safety, optimise traffic flow, and promote alternative transport modes. Infrastructure for walking and cycling remains limited, but projects are underway to widen sidewalks, enhance pedestrian crossings, and introduce safer bicycle routes in key corridors.

Private car use remains dominant, contributing to congestion in central areas and around the port. Strengthening public transport integration and encouraging more sustainable mobility choices are emerging priorities.

Through gradual infrastructure upgrades and strategic planning efforts, Bandırma aims to build a safer, more efficient, and more sustainable urban mobility system in the coming years.
