Southwark (United Kingdom)

Southwark, a borough located in the south of London, spans 29 km² and has a population of approximately 311,913 residents as of mid-2022. The borough's varied geography, including the Norwood Ridge and the River Thames, influences its urban planning and transportation infrastructure. Southwark is committed to sustainable mobility through initiatives like the Cycleway 4, a fully segregated cycle path connecting Tower Bridge to Woolwich, and the promotion of walking and cycling. The council also supports e-scooter and e-bike rental schemes to enhance last-mile connectivity. Southwark Council has developed several strategies to promote sustainable mobility and address climate challenges: including the Streets for People Strategy (2023), which aims to reduce car dominance and prioritize walking, cycling, and public transport; as well as the Climate Strategy, which outlines Southwark's plan to reach carbon neutrality by 2030.
