Jurmala (Latvia)

Jurmala, a coastal city in Latvia, is actively pursuing sustainable mobility initiatives to enhance urban transport and reduce environmental impact. In 2019, the city introduced two electric buses, the Solaris Urbino 8.9 LE, marking the first electric buses in the Baltic States.

To further improve public transport, Jurmala plans to utilize mobility data for optimizing bus routes and is exploring mobility hubs offering shared and on-demand services. The city is also considering autonomous shuttles to reduce empty bus runs. Additionally, Jurmala Airport is transitioning towards sustainable aviation. In collaboration with EVIA-AERO, the airport is developing a 50-hectare photovoltaic plant to produce green electricity for electric aircraft, aiming to become the first sustainable aviation hub in the Baltic States.
