Lappeenranta (Finland)

Lappeenranta, located in southeastern Finland, is committed to enhancing sustainable mobility and transportation. The city operates the Jouko public transport system, featuring 18 urban and 21 regional bus lines, aiming to provide efficient and eco-friendly travel options for residents and visitors. In May 2024, Lappeenranta introduced six electric buses, marking the first in South Karelia, to reduce carbon emissions and promote cleaner public transportation.

The city has also integrated Demand-Responsive Transport (DRT) services and is working towards merging public transportation areas with neighboring Imatra by early 2024, aiming to streamline services and enhance accessibility. These initiatives align with Lappeenranta's goal to achieve carbon-neutral public transport by 2030, as outlined in its Sustainable Mobility Program for 2025–2028.
