Tampere (Finland)
Tampere has taken significant steps in developing sustainable urban mobility in recent years, and its efforts were awarded by a prestigious SUMP award in 2022. Tampere aims to be a carbon-neutral city by 2030, and a sustainable and livable city of 300 000 inhabitants by 2040.
Tampere's objective is to shift focus from private car journeys to more sustainable modes of transport. In the beginning of 2020's, Tampere residents cover almost half of their trips by car but as the city grows, we need changes in modal split into mobility with lower emissions and more efficient use of space. Increasing activity, safety and equality of mobility are also shared mobility targets.
