Gaziantep (Türkiye)
Situated in southeastern Turkey, Gaziantep is a vibrant city located near the border with Syria. The city is expanding its sustainable mobility system to address rapid population growth, infrastructure gaps, and the city’s geography, which stretches between a dense historic center and large industrial zones. This layout creates high demand for efficient connections across the urban core, Karataş, İbrahimli, and the Organized Industrial Zones.
The city prioritizes public transport, operating a wide fleet of municipal and private buses, along with 22 km of tram lines and the 25 km Gaziray suburban rail linking major employment areas. A metro line enhances access to the regional City Hospital. At the heart of the network, the Gar Main Transfer Center integrates rail, metro, tram, buses, bicycles, and pedestrians. Sustainability goals emphasize reducing private car use and strengthening walking and cycling, supported by 79 km of completed bike paths and the introduction of 1,200 shared e-scooters. Persistent challenges include financial limitations, uneven enforcement, and low public awareness of traffic rules.
