Helsinki (Finland)
Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is dedicated to advancing sustainable urban mobility to enhance transportation efficiency and minimize environmental impact. The city prioritizes pedestrians, followed by cyclists, public transport, commercial transport, and passenger cars in its planning hierarchy. Aiming for carbon neutrality by 2035, Helsinki has set ambitious goals for its public transport system. The Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (HSL) plans to reduce local and carbon dioxide emissions from public transport by over 90% between 2010 and 2025. By 2025, at least 30% of HSL's bus fleet is expected to be electric. Complementing public transport, Helsinki introduced a city bike system in 2016, expanding to 345 stations and 3,450 bikes by 2018, promoting cycling as a sustainable transport mode.Â
