Ljutomer (Slovenia)
The municipality of Ljutomer is located in northeastern Slovenia, about 40 km east of Maribo. Its urban mobility goals focus on ensuring accessibility and mobility for all residents and visitors, improving traffic safety - especially for vulnerable users - and reducing transport’s environmental and health impacts.
Ljutomer faces challenges in planning practices, particularly in integrating spatial and traffic planning and managing state infrastructure, which forms a large part of the municipality’s transport network. Another key issue is residents’ reliance on cars and limited uptake of alternative transport, as public transport connections have declined and remain sparse, especially on weekends and holidays. Conditions for walking and cycling are also inadequate, with new developments often lengthening routes and insufficient infrastructure lagging behind best practices.
High motorized traffic reduces quality of life in some areas. Poorly designed roads, unpaved sidewalks, unsafe crossings, and high speeds on collector streets, combined with transit traffic, negatively affect safety, air quality, and noise levels for residents.
