Wrap up: Mobility in my neighbourhood

On 3 April 2012, the CIVITAS team in Zagreb organised a round table to reflect on a series of dialogues between citizens and decision makers on sustainable mobility in their neighbourhood that took place between May and November 2012.

ODRAZ - Sustainable Community Development had organised a series of nine meetings with citizens of different communities in Zagreb. The main purpose of these meetings was to encourage a dialogue between citizens and decision makers about mobility issues in their neighbourhood. The meetings also presented an opportunity for citizens to propose solutions and get involved in mobilitiy planning in the city. The round table on 3 April wrapped up these dialogues by looking back at what has been learned, what citizens have told decision makers and what the overall results of these meetings have been. The round table featured a number of interesting guests. A diversity of representatives from the City of Zagreb and different communities proved a good mix for a fruitful discussion. Milena Marega of the Regional Environmental Center (REC) Slovenia presented examples of public participation of other CIVITAS ELAN cities. Gojko Bezovan, a renown professor of social politics talked about social capital and the importance of involving citizens in decision making processes in their neighbourhood. A short video that was taken during meetings with citizens who expressed their opinion on mobility issues in their neighbourhood (vigorously) added value to the discussion. The CIVITAS ELAN team in Zagreb hopes that these kind of activities will act as trail blazers for better communication between municipal decision makers and citizens.
