The CIVITAS Affiliate Community, the Urban Air Mobility Initiative Cities Community (UIC2), convened on 4 December 2024 in Brussels for a workshop focused on Drones and eVTOLs Regulations. This gathering brought together UIC2 members and key stakeholders to discuss the evolving regulatory landscape and the critical role of cities in shaping the future of Urban Air Mobility (UAM).
The workshop produced a number of highlights, including an overview of the EU Regulatory Landscape provided by representatives from DG MOVE.Key developments such as the EASABasic Regulation (EU)2019/947 and the U-Space Regulations (EU 2021/664) were highlighted, which kicked-off insightful discussions amongst participants.
Participants of the workshop participated in interactive roundtable discussions, which allowed cities to share their experiences, challenges, and perspectives on their roles and responsibilities in UAM operations, as well as to discuss the strengths, limitations, and areas for improvement in city-level UAM regulation.
Workshop participant, EUROCONTROL, shared lessons learned from the European network of U-space stakeholder, which provides cities with practical insights on operational challenges, coordination mechanisms and examples of practical applications. These contributions highlighted the importance of collaboration between local authorities and stakeholders for safe and efficient UAM operations.
