The year ahead for the CIVINET Czech & Slovak Republics

The CIVINET Czech & Slovak Republic Secretariat was quite busy last year, organising eight events, highlights of which included the CIVITAS Regional City Exchange Workshop, CIVITAS Incubation Workshop, and several study tours co-organised with other CIVINETs. Furthermore, our CIVINET grew, welcoming two new city members and five associate members.

In 2022, CIVINET Czech & Slovak Republics representatives visited Budapest (HU), cities from the CIVINET Slovenia-Croatia-SEE came to Prague (CZ) for a study tour, and the Magyar CIVINET visited Brno (CZ). All of these study trips generated positive feedback from participants and organisers alike.

We kicked off 2023 with a seminar in Nitra (SK) on improving public transport services, and other ways to attract people to increasingly use this mode of transport. Thanks to excellent cooperation with the city, it was also possible to organise a tour around Nitra – including seeing its newly implemented public transport measures – aboard a brand new rental bus.

There is so much more still to come this year. The events we are already organising are listed below; in particular, we are looking forward to an upcoming study trip to Slovenia, during which we will visit Ljubljana and Maribor to get inspired by their successes in cycling. The amount of interest in this event has surprised even us, as we already have a record number of registered participants!

Upcoming events from the CIVINET Czech & Slovak Republics:

  • 22 March – Seminar “SUMPs development and related challenges” (Hradec Kralové, Czechia)
  • 12 April – Conference “MaaS and the promotion of cycling in smaller cities” (Říčany u Prahy, Czechia)
  • 5–9 June – Study tour to Slovenia: transfer of best practices in cycling promotion and measures (in cooperation with CIVINET Slo-Cro SEE)
