Šibenik Hosts SPINE Pop-Up Exhibition to Promote Sustainable Urban Mobility

SPINE pop-up exhibition

On March 28, 2025, the city of Šibenik brought sustainable moblity into the spotlight with a dynamic pop-up exhibition, organiosed under the SPINE project. Despite rainy weather, the event was a success — both informative and engaging for participants. It was jointly organized by the City of Šibenik, Gradski Parking, and ODRAZ.

The day began with a symbolic bus ride along one of the city's public transport lines, where SPINE partners engaged directly with passengers to gather feedback on their travel experiences. Posters and banners onboard helped spark conversations and raise awareness. Many passengers praised the punctuality and cleanliness of the service — one even said, “You can set your watch by the bus schedule.”

Others pointed the friendliness of the bus drivers and suggested increasing the number of female drivers to promote gender equality in the transport sector.

The dialogue continued at the Polytechnic of Šibenik, where students and citizens explored the benefits of public transportation in creating a more inclusive and accessible city. Attendees also learned about several new SPINE initiatives, including:

  • SI@ALL, a travel planning app for multi-modal journeys;
  • An interactive information kiosk at the Šibenik port designed to assist vulnerable groups;
  • The installation of five new electric bicycle charging stations across the city.

As one of Šibenik’s first experiences with pop-up engagement activities, the exhibition served as a valuable pilot to gauge public interest and involvement. Organisers used clear, inclusiver communication to encourage involvement and gather feedback. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with citizens welcoming the chance to voice their opinions and expressing pride in Šibenik’s involvement in a European-wide initiative like SPINE.

The event not only boosted awareness of the environmental, economic, and social benefits of public transport but also laid the groundwork for future community engagement. Organizers plan to build on this momentum during European Mobility Week in September 2025 continuing their collaboration with citizens to shape a more sustainable urban future.
