New SUMP topic guide is published for smaller cities and towns
Sustainable urban mobility planning requires a degree of adaptability, because what works in a big city may not work in a small town!
In a new topic guide from Eltis, smaller cities and towns are provided with valuable insight to support the implementation of a sustainable urban mobility plan. The specific mobility challenges of these smaller locales are defined, as well as the benefits they would experience if they chose to address said challenges through the implementation of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP).
According to the guide, smaller cities and towns can implement their own SUMP through twelve steps, divided into four phases: Preparation and analysis, Strategy development, Measure planning and Implementation and monitoring.
Complementing the implementation of a SUMP is the integration of sustainable mobility measures, such as 'Safe and healthy schools', 'Liveable residential areas within a well-structured street network' and 'Parking management for a vibrant city centre'.
Throughout the guide, the reader is provided with many good practise examples from across Europe for additional context, including insight from three CIVITAS projects: SUITS, SUMPs-Up and Park4SUMP.
