New CIVITAS secretariat kicks off

Last month, 30 participants from the 8 partner organisations of the CIVITAS Initiative - together with representatives from the European Commission - held the kick-off meeting in Brussels to launch the new CIVITAS cycle. The event not only marked the continuation of the initiative’s support for the CIVITAS Community to increase impact on European urban mobility, but also gave the Community a boost of fresh ideas, strategies and new ways of working, to ultimately bring higher levels of knowledge, exchange, and sustainability to EU mobility practitioners and policy-makers.
The event began with a welcome from project coordinator, Ana Dragutescu (ICLEI Europe), and an overview on the policy context, project management and European Commission expectations for the project from project officer, Octavia Stepan (CINEA). Next, Andreas Piller (ICLEI Europe), set the foundations for the coming four years by presenting the bigger picture of the concept, mission and extensive range of services to be offered by the CIVITAS secretariat. Further sessions involved presentations of each of the work packages covering the up-coming work plans, and break-out groups on key themes – target groups, methods and events - which lead to in-depth discussions among the partners. Watch this space for the next steps and opportunities in this exciting new CIVITAS chapter!
