Mobility Week in Funchal

CIVITAS Initiative

Earlier this year Funchal celebrated Mobility Week for the first time, by organising a fiesta.

A big and broad programme of activities and events was promoted, namely:Exhibitions and seminars on electric vehicles;A contest on \Environment, Energy and Mobility\ (sponsored by local newspaper);Workshops; sport events; street campaigns; games for children; activities for handicapped persons; An awareness campaign on regional TV and in newspapers. The two events with the biggest impact were:1. The launch of the new/first cycle lane which will link the centre of Funchal with the west part of the city, covering a high density area (about 20% of the population of the city) and the main hotels zone in Madeira (in the extreme west of Funchal).2. The launch of the new \Green Line\ by Horários do Funchal. (CIVITAS-MIMOSA measure 2.1). This high quality, high frequency, environmentally friendly bus line, is intended to serve both residents as well as tourists. Specific branding was created for the buses and shelters.
