The city of Limassol has reached an important milestone in its sustainable mobility journey: the shared electric bike service has officially completed a full year of operation as of January 2026.

Introduced in January 2025, this e-bike system is the first of its kind in Limassol, offering both residents and visitors a modern, eco-friendly transport option. A total of 200 e-bikes have been rolled out across the city, with 33 of them funded through the EU’s metaCCAZE project, supporting the municipality’s ambition to promote active and low-emission travel.

From the outset, the service has seen exceptionally strong demand. E-bikes are being rented four to five times more often than conventional shared bicycles previously offered in the city – a testament to their appeal, particularly given Limassol’s hilly terrain and limited public transit options. Many users now rely on e-bikes for daily commutes, enjoying a convenient and enjoyable way to navigate the city.

The launch event in early 2025 was attended by the Mayor of Limassol and neighbouring municipal leaders, underscoring broad local support for greener mobility solutions. Over the past year, partners have been collecting insights from the system’s use and actively engaging the community. Activities during European Mobility Week and group rides have helped raise awareness and encourage more people to try the service.

Beyond shared e-bikes, metaCCAZE partners in Limassol are co-developing additional innovative services aimed at tackling traffic congestion and shifting travel habits. These include an on-demand mini-bus service, a multimodal passenger hub, and an integrated IoT platform for transport and energy management.
