The metaCCAZE project, aims to revolutionise mobility in European cities, serving both passengers and freight, with innovative electric, automated and connected solutions designed to make transportation smarter, net zero and more efficient for all. As part of the initiative, one of its 44 partners is regularly invited to offer a unique perspective on implementing smart systems for electric, automated and connected mobility in European cities.

Within the metaCCAZE project, the Living Lab of Limassol is tasked with implementing a shared e-bike service. The e-bikes have already arrived in Limassol and will be deployed at key locations in the metropolitan area.

Key locations have been identified, and the e-bikes will be installed near universities, tourist attractions and hilly terrains, as these areas are expected to have higher demand from potential users.

The arrival of 200 bikes was marked by an open event organised by all local partners in the Living Lab of Limassol. A total of 200 bikes will be deployed in the city, including 50 e-bikes—an innovative addition funded by the metaCCAZE project. This fleet of 50 shared e-bikes represents a unique demonstration for Limassol, as there is currently no other shared e-bike service in the city.

The event was attended by the mayor of Limassol, as well as mayors from other municipalities in the metropolitan area.

Attendees had the opportunity to test an e-bike for free, promoting cycling as a sustainable transport option and raising awareness about the implementation of the metaCCAZE project.
