Let's take a walk around the globe

A summer competition in Brno challenges people to walk around the globe without actually leaving the city. The 50th parallel of latitude passes straight through the Czech Republic. It is approximately 25,750 km in length, which is the equivalent of about 38,625,000 steps.

People in Brno are invited to join a competition to complete this distance. They are equipped with a pedometre that they carry around with them as they walk around Brno. The competing participants then submit the number of steps they have completed regularly, so that everyone can see how they fare and how the world tour progresses. Photos from trips with pedometres are collected, as well. The results will be announced at the Integrated Mobility Centre on 19 September 2012, which is CIVITAS Day in Brno and coincides with European Mobility Week.
