Informing citizens about urban mobility in Porto
In recent years, there has been a notable increase in road traffic in cities, mainly due the increase of those traveling within the urban networks, in quantity and length, as well as in the number of cars per 1000 inhabitants. The city of Porto, within the CIVITAS ELAN project, is well aware of these problems and has developed a Transport Guide suggesting solutions to reduce traffic congestion.
The Transport Guide, available in English for download from the link below, provides information on the most appropriate transport mode for each kind of journey people may make: house - work, house - school or simply leisure. The guide uses of the experience gained through CIVITAS to implement traffic management and control measures to optimise usage of the traveling space. Among them, the Mobility Management techniques in use, for example, enhance the use of more sustainable means of transportation. While the Mobility Shop supplies different kinds of services that are needed to develop further knowledge about available options to improve the use of the various modes of transportation better.In addition to the Transport Guide, Porto has developed dissemination materials, to reach its citizens and publicise the new services offered and the activities undertaken within CIVITAS. Roll-ups, brochures and leaflets in Portuguese have been distributed to local companies, institutions, universities, stores, and to the public in general.Among them, the Mobility Management techniques in use, for example, enhance the use of more sustainable means of transportation.
