Coimbra participates in mobility conference

CIVITAS Initiative

The city of Coimbra participated at a conference organised by the Institute for Mobility and Inland Transportation (IMTT), of the Portuguese Ministry of Transport on Land Use Accessibility and Mobility Management on 12, 13 and 14 of April.

The initiative was organised in cooperation with the European Platform on Mobility Management (EPOMM) and with Portuguese member cities of CIVITAS, Coimbra, Funchal and Porto.During the three days several discussions and round tables promoted the exchange of experiences between specialists, guests and public in order to analyse and discuss better solutions to the problems related to European mobility.The first day was dedicated to the discussion on the aims and contents of several studies led by IMTT with the support of Portuguese experts. These studies include what is usually called a “ Mobility Package” :Methodology and Guidelines for the treatment of accessibility , transport and mobility issues in land use planning and management instruments; National directives on Mobility and TransportsGuide to preparation of Mobility and TransportCollection of Thematic and Technical fact Sheets to support actionGuide to the preparation of company and services plans (large and medium size generators/attracters of journeys)The second Day featured contributions by leading international experts on key subjects related to Mobility Management. The third day was dedicated to the dissemination of Portuguese experiences on the EUROPEAN PROGRAMME CIVITAS. This comprised of contributions from Coimbra, Funchal and Porto, as well as the Portugal and Spain network CIVINET which includes several other Portuguese and Spanish cities.Robert Stussi, as the Commissioner of the Conference, started by presenting the CIVITAS PLUS Programme and introducing the main guidelines of the European Commission Initiative. The project MODERN , as it is developed in Coimbra, was presented by Site Manager Luis Santos and by the Coimbra’s political representative Barbosa de Melo, Vice Mayor. Their presentations gave a global perspective of MODERN project measures and a detailed vision of the development of the hard measures namely the mini-hydro project and the info-mobility centre. In the afternoon, Local Dissemination Manager, Margarida Redinha, gave a short overview of the dissemination activities already underway and future actions that will take place in Coimbra. Meanwhile, some of the Evaluation aspects were presented and discussed by the Local Evaluation Manager Robert Stussi. A similar approach of projects MIMOSA and ELAN was given by the Funchal and Porto representatives, respectively.
