CIVITAS Insights on travel planning and on-demand mobility released

CIVITAS Initiative

The 17th and 18th editions of the CIVITAS Insights have just been released, focussing on travel planning and on-demand mobility.

Travel planning concerns travel plans, which are packages of measures designed by a workplace, school or other organisation to encourage safe, healthy and sustainable travel habits.

By reducing car travel, travel plans can improve health and wellbeing, free up parking spaces, and make a positive contribution to the community and the environment. Every travel plan is different and there is no single solution, but they can be easily adapted to suit most circumstances.

What if a concept exists that can improve travelling habits and the efficiency of the transport network? A service, which is able to cut costs for the user, improves the use of transport providers, and reduces city congestion?

'Mobility as a Service' (MaaS) is a new concept to improve travel habits and the efficiency of the transport network. This is also able to cut costs for users and reduce urban congestion.

The 18th CIVITAS Insight throws a spotlight on MaaS, explaining how it combines services from public and private transport providers through a unified gateway that creates and manages the trip, which users can pay for with a single account.

Download and read the 17th and 18th CIVITAS Insights, or access all published and forthcoming Insights on the CIVITAS Key Publications page and the CIVITAS Library. Have you been inspired by what you've read in these Insights? Then join the discussion in the Thematic Groups on Mobility Management and Transport Telematics or on CIVITAS Interactive.
