CIVITAS Funchal makes its mark at ExpoMadeira
CIVITAS MIMOSA was present once again at Expomadeira, the largest economic activities fair in Madeira, to update Funchal’s business community on the CIVITAS objectives and measures. The MIMOSA team was sure to get attention with an electric bike up for grabs!
Interaction with locals and businesses was based on a two-way approach looking at why and how to get stakeholders moving in the right direction. Initial attention focused on the fact that road transport is the primary cause of air pollution and traffic jams, which results in severe health and environmental problems. Solutions offered included practical sustainable mobility behaviour and routes that promote better environments for a city with a better quality of life. Marketing publications and presentations specifically encouraged the adoption of a less car-dependent lifestyle with the help of less polluting means of transport such as public transport, walking and cycling. The Expo provided an excellent opportunity to measure the impact of CIVITAS in Funchal as the team handed out a survey similar to the one that had been carried out at last year’s ExpoMadeira. By the end of the fair, more than 800 respondents had completed it. On the last day of the fair, the CIVITAS FUNCHAL consortium members had a raffle for an electric bike. Overall the event was considered a success with record numbers dropping by the stand to interact with the team, hear about CIVITAS and register for a chance to win the electric bike.
