Amsterdam tests autonomous electric cargo vessel for cleaner urban logistics

Amsterdam cleaner urban logistics

This week, an autonomous electric cargo vessel successfully sailed through Amsterdam’s city centre as part of the metaCCAZE project.

Together with ZOEV City and Roboat, the demonstration tested how goods can be transported by water from CTPark Amsterdam into the city, supporting cleaner and smarter urban logistics.

With a skipper on board for supervision, the trial was part of a real logistics operation.

By shifting deliveries from roads to waterways, Amsterdam can:

  • Reduce truck traffic
  • Relieve pressure on historic streets and bridges
  • Cut emissions and noise
  • Create more liveable urban spaces
