Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain) was the winner of the CIVITAS Resilience Award 2020. Combining a rapid reaction to COVID-19 with a long-term vision, it implemented extensive ad-hoc initiatives to keep citizens moving and safe. These included space for pedestrians and cyclists, and car-free access to key roads on weekends. Its pioneering "Mobility Plan for the New Normal” allows for the scaling up and replication of what were initially short-term solutions.
