Summary

Porto implemented a Mobility Shop (MS) in the Asprela quarter, an area suffering from heavy congestion. The MS provides to the citizens information about all means of transport available in the city.

Implementing sustainable mobility

The MS provides, successfully, advice on mobility services, raises awareness and educate on mobility issues.
The main objective of the measure was to generate a debate on changing mobility habits.
Asprela is characterized by a unique mobility demand pattern that comes from a concentration of universities, research and design centers, and public institutions such as hospitals. This generates varying seasonal demand. There are many young and highly qualified people travelling to the quarter.

Progress

The MS was opened on 21 September 2010. It has launched its website and currently offers information and advice on multimodal transport and logistics support for the car pooling service.
The number of visitors has increased every month!

Outcomes

The measure results were:

  • Increased satisfaction with the public transport service;
  • Better understanding of innovative mobility services and mobility information needs;
  • Increased demand of public transport.
