PORTIS

Implementing sustainable mobility

In 2010, the Klaipeda public transport company (Klaipėdos keleivinis transportas) implemented an e-ticketing system for public transport. The city has only allocated 10km of streets as public transport lanes.

The traffic light system does not currently give priority to public transport, meaning public transport is stuck in the same rush hour traffic jams as private cars. This measure will identify solutions for how to use available data to provide traffic light priority for public transport.

A pilot project for public transport management using public data (better PT timetables, frequency, vehicle capacity, etc.) will be developed.
