Summary
According to the new Town Plan, which is due to be approved in late 2018, the City of Trieste will link into the area's new “metropolitan railway system”. This will include the development of a new parking system on the city's outskirts.
Implementing sustainable mobility
In relation to this, the City of Trieste wants to explore the feasibility of connecting the coastal areas (the Old Port and New Port) to the hinterland through a hybrid public transport system that is linked to existing railway infrastructure.
The new transport system will contribute to a modal shift towards more sustainable modes of transport, thereby reducing pollution and congestion.
The possibility of intermodal changes, connections with other facilities, and special fare prices for tourists arriving on cruise ships will also be investigated. The above developments are closely linked to Trieste's SUMP.
