Summary

The City of Trieste recently implemented an integrated system that allows users to pay for parking with an app.

Implementing sustainable mobility

The aim is to further develop the system through innovative ICT tools and refine the app to provide real-time information on parking availability to drivers.

Currently, the system is being piloted in the city's waterfront area. The system uses detectors and cameras to monitor whether parking spaces on the road are occupied.

The availability of spaces within car parks is monitored via the usual barrier control system.

The integrated parking management system will guide drivers towards free parking spaces.

As the app will also convey information on car-sharing availability, it will help reduce traffic congestion and foster a shift towards more sustainable modes of transport.

These developments represent a real step forward from the current system.
