Introduction: This seminar is one a series of the media training events that was held in CIVITAS SMILE countries during 2007, in order to develop the skills of project staff and at the same time take account of the different requirements of local and national media in those countries. Objectives of seminar: To increase participants' understanding of the local and national media in the UK. To give participants confidence in getting their dissemination messages across to journalists and thereby to the local and national public. Intended audience: All staff that may come into direct or indirect contact with the media (Local Dissemination Managers, Site Managers, Measure Leaders, Project Management staff). Participants from other CIVITAS projects were welcome to attend. Delivery and training materials were in English. Programme:The morning session was presented by Chris Kelly, who works as a trainer for the local and national BBC. In the afternoon session there was a moderated discussion to reflect upon what had been learned, and identify where the new skills and knowledge could be applied at the site and/or project levels.
