WorkshopCIVITAS Initiative

Increased awareness of climate change and rising fuel prices have contributed to the widespread success of car sharing and car pooling across Europe. Car sharing and car pooling bring social, environmental and economic benefits by helping reduce dependence on the private car, reduced conflict over parking, reduced air and water pollution as well as a parallel increase in the use of public trasport and other alternative models of travel. This Workshop, organised by the City of Venice within the CIVITAS MOBILIS project, offered cities and transport operators the opportunity to meet and discuss the start of the art of car sharing and car pooling across Europe, through presentations of CIVITAS cities local experience and of other European best practices. The Workshop took place in the City of Venice on the 28th of February 2008. The MOBILIS consortium took the opportunity of this workshop to hold one of their regular meetings to discuss progress of measures, evaluation and dissemination on the 27th and 29th of February. The Workshop was open to the CIVITAS community.
