Ptolemaida

Ptolemaida (Greece)

The small-sized city of Ptolemaida is situated on the Eordaia plain of Western Macedonia, in the north of Greece. The primary mobility challenges facing the city include a local dependency on and preference for personal car use, a lack of infrastructure to accommodate active and shared mobility, as well as the inclusion of marginalized groups, such as migrants and persons with disabilities, in decision-making processes.

To overcome these challenges, the city developed a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) in 2024 (available here in Greek). The plan outlines three primary mobility goals for the years ahead, including developing a mobility system that prioritises active and shared mobility, prioritizing a transition towards cleaner fuels and vehicles, and fostering overall road safety and access to transportation services for all citizens.
