Lokron (Greece)

Lokron is a municipality in the Regional Unit of Phthiotis in Central Greece, with its administrative centre in Atalanti. Covering a large area of approximately 615 km², the municipality combines coastal settlements along the North Euboean Gulf with inland agricultural and mountainous areas. This dispersed settlement pattern creates mobility challenges, as residents often rely on road transport for access to services, employment and tourism destinations.

Sustainability efforts in Lokroi focus on improving accessibility, reducing environmental impacts and enhancing quality of life. The municipality has developed a Sustainable Urban Accessibility Plan (SAP), which aims to create accessible mobility networks connecting key public spaces and services. Recent municipal initiatives also include investments in electromobility, environmental protection and smart infrastructure as part of a broader green development agenda. While public transport options remain limited compared to larger Greek cities, improving accessibility, active mobility and sustainable transport connections remains an important priority for the municipality.
