Mert Yaman - Kadıköy

Kadıköy (Türkiye)

Kadıköy is a municipality and district on the Asian side of Istanbul Province, Turkey. It is a large, populous, and cosmopolitan area in the Asian side of Istanbul, on the northern shore of the Sea of Marmara.

Besides the active participation in SUMP-PLUS, FastTrack, DREEM, ULaaDS, SHOW, IMPETUS projects,  Kadıköy has also been in search for funding for many innovative ideas. In their pursuit of enhancing urban mobility and sustainability, the city has established a comprehensive logistics system around the historical city center, integrating pedestrian-friendly solutions and innovative parking projects.

They have also been working on an accessibility module for their city app for a citizen science project. The purpose is to generate live data, heatmaps and essentially a navigation module for the people with mobility restrictions.

Complementing these efforts, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) in Kadıköy embraces a holistic approach, encompassing mobility innovation, urban logistics, accessibility, superblocks, pedestrianization, street typologies, and neighborhood-scale planning.  Their goal is to support micro-mobility through policies like Turkey's first regulation for electric scooters.
