Summary
TRAST (transport for an attractive city) are the Swedish guidelines for Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans ("trafikstrategi" in Swedish). It is a handbook supporting municipalities in process-related aspects of traffic strategies, plans and measures.
TRAST describes how different aims of mobility planning – such as the city’s character, accessibility, perceived safety, traffic safety and low environmental impact – can be balanced, taking into account their interactions and each municipality’s individual context and needs.
The overarching handbook is accompanied by numerous documents including more in-depth guidance and support in several different areas of transport and town planning, such as: traffic safety, appropriate speed limit selection, walking as a form of transport and sustainable travel. A short introduction to TRAST in English is available at http://webbutik.skl.se/bilder/artiklar/pdf/7585-146-4.pdf
TRAST has been developed by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKL), and Swedish Board of Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket).
