Larissa is the capital and largest city of the Thessaly region, and has 284,325 inhabitants. This makes it the fifth most populous city in Greece. It is a key agricultural centre, as well as a national transportation hub. Road and rail routes link it with the port of Volos and the larger cities of Thessaloniki and Athens.
