Webinar: urban consolidation centers: UK Experience - 6 May - 17.00 CET

CIVITAS Initiative

The Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF) Center of Excellence for Sustainable Urban Freight Systems (CoE-SUFS) is pleased to announce the fifth of its Peer-to-Peer Exchange Program Webinar Series.
The Peer-to-Peer Exchange Program is designed to share global best practice cases and real world examples of sustainable urban freight systems. This program is open to anyone with a professional or a personal interest in freight transportation issues.

Over the past 10 years a number of urban consolidations centers have been introduced in the UK. They cover a range of industries sectors including: construction, retail, airports and the public sector. While not all have been successful there are a number that have thrived and continue to operate. Currently, there is a high level of interest in further opportunities to consolidate deliveries for cities in the UK. The scope to increase the use of clean vehicles (particularly electric vehicles) as part of any UCC implementation is also receiving considerable attention.
Professor Michael Browne (University of Westminster) will review past experience, discuss the impacts and performance of UCCs and identify the underlying factors influencing success and consider the wider influences in terms of vehicle type and use.
At the end, Professor Holguín-Veras will provide a summary of the chief lessons provided by the Japanese, Dutch, and UK experience with UCCs. In doing so, he will highlight success and failure factors and discuss the potential role of UCCs as part of a holistic strategy towards sustainable urban freight systems.
Speakers: Michael Browne (University of Westminster) and Jose Holguin-Veras (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute)
