TRAST (transport for an attractive city) are the Swedish guidelines for Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans ("trafikstrategi" in Swedish). It is a handbook supporting municipalities in process-related aspects of traffic strategies, plans and measures.

TRAST describes how different aims of mobility planning – such as the city’s character, accessibility, perceived safety, traffic safety and low environmental impact – can be balanced, taking into account their interactions and each municipality’s individual context and needs.

The overarching handbook is accompanied by numerous documents including more in-depth guidance and support in several different areas of transport and town planning, such as: traffic safety, appropriate speed limit selection, walking as a form of transport and sustainable travel. A short introduction to TRAST in English is available at

TRAST has been developed by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKL), and Swedish Board of Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket).
