In the middle of January, CIVINET España y Portugal (Spain and Portugal) organised a day-long event in Alcobendas (Spain), a town close to Madrid, that gathered a wide variety of mobility stakeholders from across Iberia.

Participants gained extensive insight into the impressive transport initiatives that cities across the peninsula are engaged in.

One of those was presented by Torres Vedras (Portugal), the host of the CIVITAS Forum 2017, who spoke on its “door-to-door” mobility initiative. A fleet of minibuses provide an on-demand local transport service: the vehicles are equipped to carry passengers with various mobility-related needs.

Madrid, one of the five cities in CIVITAS ECCENTRIC, talked about how apps and social media are being of are being used in to log traffic incidents. Doing so is enabling local authorities to develop a more comprehensive picture of road safety hazards in the city.

Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is also edging closer in the Spanish capital - it was announced that the supplier of payment systems for the planned service is being selected.

Such events embody how the CIVINETs can bring together sustainable mobility champions, innovators and practitioners from across a region.
