3rd ELIPTIC webinar: Experiences from European cities in using electric public transport infrastructure for the charging of other e-vehicles
Electromobility currently receives wide recognition as an opportunity to make our cities more sustainable and liveable. However, the lack of city‐wide charging infrastructure and the limited driving range of electric vehicles are barriers to wider deployment. Being often much more cost‐effective than building a stand‐alone charging infrastructure and using the public electricity grid, ELIPTIC’s use cases have shown how the existing electric public transport infrastructure (trolleybus, metro and tram sub-stations) could be used as charging infrastructure for other electric vehicles such as e-buses, pedelecs, e-cars/ taxis, e-vans and e-utility trucks. For the safe operation of this multi-purpose infrastructure, different approaches were made use of taking into account infrastructure and vehicle types as well as local context conditions, such as energy capacities of the grid, the institutional set-up and regulatory frameworks.
In this webinar, taking place on 9 April 2018 from 11:00-12:30 CET, we will present lessons learned in the project. After a short introduction to ELIPTIC's work and use cases related to the webinar’s topic, various presenters will show explore different aspects related to the multi-purpose use of electric public transport infrastructure.
This will include direct insights from two ELIPTIC cities. David Talbot from Transport for London (TfL) will discuss the technical aspects of the provision of metro infrastructure for charging TfL's service vehicles, while Estefania Martinez Lara from B:SM will present the planning elements that need to be taken into accountwhen using Barcelona’s metro and tram network for the charging of e-cars.
Hartwig from Bredow, from the law firm von Bredow Valentin Herz, will give the final presentation on findings that look at e-mobility from an energy law perspective, highlighting legal and regulatory challenges encountered within the project
