Partnership on Urban Mobility kicked off in Prague, 23-24 February 2017

The Partnership on Urban Mobility is one of 10 partnerships launched in the framework of the European Urban Agenda. The Partnership consists of 5 Member States, 8 cities, 2 regions, the European Investment Bank, the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), EUROCITIES, URBACT, 3 Directorate-Generals of the European Commission and 3 stakeholders: Polis, UITP and ECF.

This Partnership intends to provide within a two-year time frame some clear deliverables and recommendations on better regulation, better funding and better knowledge exchange for urban mobility.

Upcoming meetings of 2017 will take place in Brussels in April, in Germany in June, and in Brussels in October and in December. The first draft of the Orientation Paper has been circulating in mid-march. The objective is to have a Draft Action Plan by the end of the year, consultations in 2018, and to implement the Action Plan in 2018 and 2019.

The Urban Agenda for the EU is an integrated and coordinated approach to deal with the urban dimension of EU and national policies and legislation. By focusing on concrete priority themes within dedicated Partnerships, the Urban Agenda seeks to improve the quality of life in urban areas.

In addition to the Partnership on Urban Mobility, 11 further Partnershipshave been defined so far. Four Partnerships were launched in 2016 on Inclusion of Migrants and Refugees, Air Quality, Housing and Urban Poverty. Four others started their work in February 2017on Circular Economy, Digital Transition, Urban Mobility and Jobs and Skills in the Local Economy. Four more will be launched before summer 2017on Energy Transition, Climate Adaptation, Innovative and Responsible Public Procurement and Sustainable Use of Land and Nature-Based Solutions.

Each Partnership involves on a voluntary and equal basis cities, Member States, the Commission and stakeholders such as NGOs or businesses. Together they work on developing and implementing concrete actions to successfully tackle challenges of cities and to contribute to smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.
