New environment-friendly buses in Krakow

CIVITAS Initiative

Since early January 2007 citizens of Krakow are able to travel by new environment-friendly buses . After a broad market research Krakow decided to buy CNG buses. The “friendly for environment” city buses were bought by MPK (Krakow´s public transport operator). Thanks to this Krakow introduced into the urban bus fleet five environment-friendly buses. The buses are produced by Polskie Autobusy Sp.z o.o. and the type of the buses is Jelcz 121M CNG.

After all testing activities, cost analysis and training for the first group of drivers and the first official presentation, which took place on 23rd of November 2006, the CNG buses are now in operation on the streets of Krakow. The adventages of these new buses are obviously and incontestable. The buses are not only cleaner, better and more comfortable but they are also adaptated for disabled people. Among other innovative equipment the buses have platforms.for wheelchairs and visual and sound information.Inside the CNG buses have also LCD screens. In this way there is the opportunity to promote the CiViTAS-CARAVEL project. In the near future a short advertising film concerning the CiViTAS-CARAVEL project will be produced by Forms Group and broadcasted in the buses.Outside the five CNG buses are clearly indicated by the CiViTAS-CARAVEL logo.MPK will consider a purchase of further environment - friendly buses after one-year testing period.
