Join the launch of the preparations of the Green Paper on urban transport, participate in the discussions and help to shape future European policy!!!The European Commission will start the preparations of a new Green Paper on urban transport with a technical workshop and a major stakeholder conference in Brussels on 31 January 2007. The workshop will take place during the morning and conference during the afternoon. They are organised in the framework of the EU Sustainable Energy Week.

Urban transport and green propulsionGreen propulsion can bring important benefits to the urban transport sector. During this workshop, invited technical experts and stakeholder representatives will present and assess perspectives in vehicle technology and fuel developments, which could contribute to reductions of pollution emissions, greenhouse gas emission, and energy consumption. Possible support by policy actions will be identified. Urban transport: problems, solutions and responsibilitiesThis first stakeholder conference will bring together representatives from all the sectors that have an interest in the Green Paper. Representatives from the European Commission will outline their plans. High-level representatives from the different European institutions and from European cities will present their expectations. During this conference particular attention will be paid to the question of subsidiarity and governance. The conference will be closed with an intervention by Commission Vice-President Barrot. The draft programme of both events is now available on the EU Sustainable Energy Week website, www.eusew.eu. Places can be reserved using the on-line registration system on this site.
